Prada
Prada was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada as a leather-goods business in Milan. It was not until 1978 that his granddaughter Miuccia inherited the company and was allowed to incorporate her own creative vision. In 1979 she released her first line of bags and totes under the label, soon after she created shoes and in the late eighties, women’s ready-to-wear. Prada has since become one of the most prominent names in the luxury goods business. The company has often been referred to as an ‘anti-status’ label, placing more focus on craftsmanship and fabrics rather than branding and logos. Prada embraces the notion of femininity with recent collections featuring full skirts, knee-length dresses and ladylike accessories. Miuccia Prada has stated that she simply wants to create ‘classic, normal clothes’ and it is this simple, uncomplicated aesthetic that has made Prada as timeless as it is today.▼
