Couturier Hubert de Givenchy founded Givenchy in 1952, the house soon became famed for its chic, ladylike designs which attracted a following from many famous clients. Givenchy gained great notoriety in 1961 when he designed the costumes for ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ including the infamous ‘little black dress’. The house joined LVMH in 1988 and subsequently many designers such as Alexander McQueen, Julien MacDonald and John Galliano became creative directors of this luxury fashion house. In 2005, the then unknown Italian Riccardo Tisci took over, reinterpreting the brand with his dark and edgy stance. Tisci’s obsession with everything gothic has given Givenchy a tougher look whilst still creating fashion classics such as the ‘Nightingale’ bag. Tisci has given Givenchy his own unmistakable personal touch. Under his creative direction it has become a darker, more mysterious label that everyone wants a piece of.▼
