How to Style Spring Jackets

Warmer days are nearing, but there are still a couple of months of layering left. Although we can thankfully begin to put away some of the heavier items, spring is all about smart layering and utilizing those transitional season jackets so you don’t find yourself unprepared or underdressed. If your jacket rotation isn't up to scratch, you're in the right place. Here are five ways to style some of the best spring jackets.

01. The Leather Jacket
A black leather jacket doesn’t have to lean into the rockstar Hedi Slimane aesthetic. A roomy leather jacket worn with light wash jeans and some smarter mid-layers plays with the push and pull or formal and casual dress codes to land somewhere neatly treading the line between both. Think loafer or boat shoe reminiscent of the menswear of the ‘90s for your footwear, and finish your look with an incognito-enabling logo cap and subtle chain poking out from beneath an open shirt collar.

02. The Technical Windbreaker
The kind of jacket that comes out on the most blustery days, a technical windbreaker can be the difference between a good day and a bad day, outfit wise. Windbreakers are more often than not lightweight and thinner pieces of outerwear, meaning that you can effectively layer up your look with your jacket as the final functional piece. Wear over an easy-to-throw-on jersey layer and some heavier-weight denim for a good juxtaposition of modern and traditional fabrications.

03. The Chore Coat
A style steeped in workwear history, chore coats are a spring staple in menswear. This iconic status has led to many luxury interpretations of the jacket, resulting in an elevated style of workwear that can serve as the perfect crowning piece for an outfit composed of equally luxurious renditions of classic pieces. A plaid shirt in a more contemporary silhouette, hard-wearing loose cotton trousers, and an elegant slip-on shoe complete the look, offering the hallmarks of a vintage-inspired outfit without the hours spent hunting down the perfect-fitting jacket.

04. The Trench Coat
A jacket style synonymous with springtime, trench coats are a failsafe for unpredictable weather. Leaning into the style’s more dressed up associations is the right move here — layer over a fine-knit cardigan and wear with some drapey smarter trousers for a dynamic silhouette that centers the jacket as the hero, but works well as a simple (and very on trend) look when your trench is removed. For a hint of character, a printed silk-blend scarf doubles down on the flowing shapes, while a boot with a bit of a heavier silhouette grounds the look firmly in 2025.

05. The Bomber Jacket
A short, collarless jacket option that is packed with attitude thanks to its long-time association with counter-culture style, bomber jackets are another one-time uniform that has been given the luxury overhaul time and time again. The slightly oversized shape and cropped length lend themselves to a looser leg shape and shorter layers like an on-trend boxy cardigan so that your outfit sits neatly and cohesively together. When in doubt, going for a bomber in the classic khaki green nylon is always the best bet as it’s a style that has been around for decades — so you can rest assured it’s a worthy investment.
