We're All Wearing Weird Shoes

For decades, there was a bit of resistance in menswear when it comes to footwear that sits outside the historically expected categories: sleek leather, minimalist sneakers, a desert boot if you’re feeling daring. Shoes are where many men draw the line — a finishing touch they rarely mess with, unless it’s something uber statement like a bold sneaker. In 2025, however, the shoes that are trending are the ones breaking all the so-called rules.
From street style to runways, there’s a growing wave of untraditional, vaguely divisive, low-key weird footwear. Flip-flops. Vibram FiveFingers. Puffed-up sneaker-loafer hybrids. Backless clog-styles. The shoes that look wrong at first glance but somehow feel right by the third.
This season, it’s not just that unconventional footwear is allowed — it’s that it actually makes the outfit.
