Brown Ambition: The Understated Shade ruling FW24

Brown for autumn is hardly the most groundbreaking trope, however this season, it feels more reimagined than ever before. Rich, chestnut hues and luxurious mahoganies are fashion’s latest offering to FW dressing — and we can’t help but be head over heels in love with every shade.

Brown is undoubtedly the face of FW, with connotations of seasonal warmth weaving through its palette. The runway, in particular, reflected this understated power color: Ralph Lauren's brown and golden garments swept the stage, and Acne Studios' FW24 campaign featured Willow Smith dressed in chunky brown knits and buttery brown leather accessories. Chloé, meanwhile, displayed a softer, more bohemian and whimsical side to the earthy tone, showcasing models in fringed brown jackets and tasseled shoes, with sheer brown silhouettes framing their looks. 

The neutrality of brown can position it as a color that fades into the background, but there are countless ways to make it the star of any outfit. Take texture, for example: brown suede can easily elevate your fall ensemble, bringing a touch of luxury and dimension to your outfit. The same applies to technique, too: a ruched or pleated brown material can draw a distinct line between monotonous and contemporary.
