Before attempting to clean cotton, we would advise always checking the label to ensure no specific care instructions are required. Generally, cotton should be hand or machine washed at 30°C or below. Colored cotton garments should be turned inside out before washing. Cotton pieces can then be gently stretched to restore the original shape. Air dry cotton naturally.
Lace is a beautiful yet delicate fabric, and will need to be cleaned properly to prolong its life. If your lace becomes stained, it will need to be cleaned quickly as stains can stick to the lace fibers permanently if left untreated for too long. We would always recommend checking the care label before attempting to clean lace, but hand washing in warm water and a detergent without enzymes is considered to be the safest option. Work the soapy water into the fabric, and leave to soak for around 30 minutes. Use a gentle plunging action to remove dirt and stains, and avoid rubbing. Never wring or twist lace fabric. Place on a clean, dry towel and press gently to remove excess water, and then lay flat to air dry naturally. If you do decide to clean lace in the washing machine using a gentle wash cycle, it is advised to first place it in a laundry bag to protect it from getting damaged.
To help keep your silk items soft and in excellent condition for years to come, it is recommended to follow the instructions on each item’s care label. Some silk is ‘Dry Clean Only’, while other items may have ‘Dry Clean’ as the recommended cleaning method, but other methods may be used. If your silk is suitable for hand washing, use lukewarm water and a specific, mild detergent to help protect the silk’s natural properties. Turn the item inside out, and soak for up to 30 minutes, then rinse with cool water to remove any remaining soap. Silk should not be tumble dried, and instead can be laid flat to dry naturally. If you need to clean in the machine, first place in a laundry bag, select a delicate, cold-water cycle and remove promptly once the cycle has finished to reduce wrinkles. If the care label on your silk item says that it can be ironed, then use a low iron setting and ideally iron while it is still slightly damp.
