The Stone Island Jackets Buying Guide

Feather-light yet thoroughly warm, Stone Island jackets are the ultimate in quality Italian outerwear. These resin-treated, clothing-dyed designs use high-performance fabrics and materials to make jackets that can cope with any climate. The brand's weather-resistant styles take their inspiration from military and workwear, while the quilted designs are made with the arctic explorers of old in mind.

Science meets fashion in the men’s Stone Island jackets collection. Founded in 1982 by Italian garment engineer and designer Massimo Osti, the brand has become an innovative force when it comes to technical textiles. Dedicated to developing the optimum fabric for each garment – be it a ski jacket or pair of cargo pants – Stone Island experiments with dyes and treatments to create weatherproof, sometimes even color-changing styles. It’s jackets are no different with lightweight packable shell jackets to heavy-duty down-filled parkas being found in the collection. Each piece is guaranteed to be world class in cut, color and composition and finished with the brand’s compass logo. Read on for our men’s Stone Island jacket buying guide, which will help you decide on the style to invest in and the size to go for.

How To Care For Your Stone Island Jacket

As part of Stone Island’s drive to be innovative with textiles, the brand makes most of its fabric machine washable. Styles such as the Shell Jacket can be washed in your machine at home. Use a gentle cycle, 30 to 40 degrees, and a non-biological detergent. Before washing, make sure all zips and hooks are fastening to avoid them snagging the fabric in the machine. Garments should be allowed to drip dry unless otherwise stated on the label.

Stone Island down jackets can also be washed in the washing machine. These should be placed on a cold wash with a gentle detergent. Some pieces can then be tumble dried. It’s recommended that you put tennis balls in with your jacket to help prevent the down feathers from clumping. Between washes, you can keep your jacket fresh by dabbing at any dirt with a damp cloth. To prolong the life of your down jacket, wash it once per season.

Always check the label before cleaning your Stone Island jacket. Due to the technical makeup of most fabrics, washing instructions will vary from product to product.

FAQ

Are Stone Island jackets warm?

Stone Island Jackets are designed to live-up to the outdoors. For expeditions in cold climates, choose a down jacket. These are made using a specific loom weave technique that creates compartments for the feathers to be injected into, increasing the loft of the feathers. Other styles, like the ski jacket, are crafted from a thermo-sensitive fabric. This adapts to the temperature whether you’re inside or outside and changes color accordingly.

Are Stone Island jackets waterproof?

To keep you dry on your next expedition, most Stone Island jackets are waterproof. Styles like the Light Shell Jacket are given a water- and wind-proof coating after construction. This helps to shelter you from inclement weather. It’s not ideal to wear down styles during periods of rain as this can damage the loft of the feathers. If your down jacket does become wet, hang to air dry as soon as possible.

Where are Stone Island jackets made?

Each Stone Island product is developed at the brand’s Ravarino headquarters. This is where the team experiments with and develops its technical fabrics. Garments are sent out to be manufactured worldwide. The finished article is returned to Stone Island’s facility in Italy to be dyed and treated.
