Pioneering athletic shoe brand Reebok was originally called J.W Foster and Sons when it was founded in 1865. Later taken over by Foster's grandsons Joe and Jeff, it was renamed 'Reebok', a word Joe had found in a South African dictionary he won in a running race as a boy. This new name was particularly fitting as it comes from the Afrikaans spelling of a type of African gazelle known for being exceptionally fast and nimble.
