Cotton is one of the most popular fabrics, and there are many different types of cotton fabric. We suggest checking the care instructions for the specific item before washing. Generally, cotton should be hand or machine washed at 30°C or below. Colored cotton garments should be turned inside out before washing. Cotton pieces can then be gently stretched to restore the original shape. Air dry cotton naturally.
Lace is a beautiful yet delicate fabric, and will need to be cleaned properly to prolong its life. If your lace becomes stained, it will need to be cleaned quickly as stains can stick to the lace fibers permanently if left untreated for too long. We would always recommend checking the care label before attempting to clean lace, but hand washing in warm water and a detergent without enzymes is considered to be the safest option. Massage the soapy water into the lace and leave to soak for around 30 minutes. Rinse well, and press out excess water. Avoid rubbing the lace fabric, instead use a gentle plunging action to remove any dirt or stains. Do not tumble dry or wring out, as lace should be dried flat away from direct sunlight. It is advised to avoid using the washing machine to clean lace, but if it is required to remove tough stains, always use a gentle wash cycle and place in a laundry bag to protect against damage.
Silk is a beautifully luxurious fabric, and often requires special care to keep it looking its best. Before attempting to clean your silk item, we recommend checking the care label for instructions as some silk is dry clean only, and others are washable. If your silk is not dry clean only, then it can be hand washed in lukewarm water with a delicate detergent. If your silk is suitable for hand washing, use lukewarm water and a specific, mild detergent to help protect the silk’s natural properties. Turn the item inside out, and soak for up to 30 minutes, then rinse with cool water to remove any remaining soap. Avoid putting in the tumble dryer and instead lay flat to dry naturally. If you need to clean in the machine, first place in a laundry bag, select a delicate, cold-water cycle and remove promptly once the cycle has finished to reduce wrinkles. If the care label on your silk item says that it can be ironed, then use a low iron setting and ideally iron while it is still slightly damp.
