Californian designer James Perse's debut into fashion occurred in 1991 when, unable to find the well-constructed, high-quality baseball caps he was after, he designed his own for his father's Los Angeles-based boutique Maxfield. With the hats immediately gaining attention and a customer basis, Perse went on to design a T-shirt line, before launching his namesake label in 1996. Since then, the brand has received critical acclaim and a loyal following for its luxe take on low maintenance, minimalist designs. Look to the label for essential basics like the 'perfect white tee', cozy knits and sophisticated sweats.
