Whether your garment is cotton or cotton-blend, there is the possibility that it may shrink if not properly cared for. We recommend hand or machine washing in cold water of 30°C or below. This will help avoid color fading and dye transfer. Cotton pieces can then be gently stretched to restore the original shape. Air dry cotton naturally.
Silk is a beautifully luxurious fabric, and often requires special care to keep it looking its best. Due to its very delicate nature, we advise carefully following the care instructions on each individual silk product. Some silk products are labeled as strictly ‘Dry Clean Only’, while others have ‘Dry Clean’ as the recommended cleaning method but may also be hand washed or machine washed. It is advised to clean silk using a lower temperature to other fabrics, as hot water can affect the material’s natural properties and damage to the fibers. We also recommend selecting a specially-formulated silk detergent, which will be gentler on its natural proteins. Avoid spot cleaning silk, as rubbing in only one area can cause the material to lighten in just that spot. Avoid putting in the tumble dryer and instead lay flat to dry naturally. If you must wash in the machine, select a gentle, cold-water cycle, place in a laundry bag for additional protection and promptly remove from the washer to reduce any wrinkles. If the care label on your silk item says that it can be ironed, then use a low iron setting and ideally iron while it is still slightly damp.
Washing wool isn’t as challenging as it seems, and depending on the item, it is simple to spot clean or washable by hand or in the machine. Some wool pieces, such as a suit, blazer or coat, would benefit from spot cleaning. Generally, most wool is washable and will need to be turned inside out before being washed at temperatures of 30°C or less using a specialist wool detergent. To minimize the risk of shrinkage, it is advised to soak in cold water before you put in the machine. Never tumble dry wool, instead dry flat away from direct heat or sunlight. To ensure a silky, smooth appearance to your wool garment, iron inside-out on a low temperature setting, ideally when it is still damp.
