If you want to use the machine, make sure the item is turned inside out first, place in a mesh laundry bag and ensure a low-spin, cold-water cycle is selected. Remove excess water without wringing, and lay flat to air dry away from direct sunlight. Most wool knitwear, no matter how good the quality, is prone to pilling.
