Issey Miyake
Born in Hiroshima, Japan, in 1938, Miyake went on to work in New York and Paris and founded the Miyake Deisgn Studio in 1970. He first showed during the Paris Collections in 1973, and has been renowned ever since for his innovative designing and styling techniques. He always manages to strike the balance between tradition and innovation, handcrafts and new technology, and the label pushes such boundaries to this day (though Miyake doesn’t officially design himself now, he still oversees every aspect of the company). From his innovative pleating construction began in the 1980s, to his current project to form clothes out of just one piece of thread, Miyake’s influence is unparalleled. Today, expect deconstructed outerwears and padded-out shapes in menswear and womenswear lines from the design house.
