Gabriela Artigas

While studying textile design in her hometown of Mexico City, Gabriela Artigas started fashioning bracelets out of toothbrushes. She removed the bristles and molded the handles into bracelet cuffs, which admirers repeatedly brought off her wrists. The instantaneous sensation of the toothbrush cuff prompted her to make jewelry using other materials.

Her eponymous collection was originally launched in 2003 and continues to find its form in an amalgam of eclectic materials. Her designs are handmade in limited productions in Los Angeles or Mexico City, twisting materials in contemporary ways and unrestrained designs.
