Designer Rick Owens is the king of sartorial drama intrinsically sewn into a raven black, dusty-hued color scheme. Born and bred in California, he launched his first collection in 1994 and began the slow climb to his throne among the fashion elite. A favorite among rock stars, models and the Parisian editorial circlet, Owens is famous for his brand of moody, broody cool in heavily tailored and architectural silhouettes.
Drawing inspiration from 1970s couture and blending it with glam-rock accents, Owens’ designs are avant-garde yet wearable, deliberately scruffy and quietly luxurious. Coining the term ‘glunge’ (glamor meets grunge) when describing his work, each piece has a blasé feel to it: casual and nonchalant.
