J.Crew

Inspired by the success of The Official Preppy Handbook and driven to create his own fashionable legacy, Arthur Cinader founded J.Crew in 1983. Starting off with the mailing of its first catalog designed by Cinader himself in a creatively conscious manner with editorial like photography, the brand was quickly thrown into the spotlight and praised for its ivy league inspired wear. After opening their New York City based flagship store just six years later, everyone from soccer mom’s to trendy career-centric twentysomething’s were splurging on J.Crew’s iconic pencil skirts, cable knit sweaters and fitted trousers. A hot commodity within the fashion industry, J.Crew has introduced several line extensions, including crew-cuts (for kids sizes 2—14), J.Crew weddings & parties and J.Crew Collection.
