Belgian Diane von Furstenberg launched her eponymous label in 1971 with the clear decree: ‘Feel like a woman. Wear a dress.’ Her iconic wrap dresses were an instant hit and she soon went on to sell five million in less than five years and land herself on the cover of TIME magazine. After a short break from fashion she returned in 1997 relaunching the much coveted wrap dress along with a vast array of other feminine styles. Her clothes show a real celebration of fashion, always brightly coloured, simple, ladylike classics. Today the DVF brand includes sportswear, fragrance and beauty lines. Along with the wrap dress the label is known for its floral prints, geometric patterns and 70’s hippy aesthetic.
In April 2010 Diane von Furstenberg appointed Yvan Mispelaere to assist her as creative director. Mispelaere, who has previously worked at Gucci, Chloe and Lanvin, has built upon the east glamour of DVF. He has developed the brand by reworking the classics and producing complex new signature prints.▼
