Ann Demeulemeester

Graduating from Antwerp’s Royal Academy of the Fine Arts in 1981, ten years on would find Ann Demeulemeester showcasing her first collection at Paris Fashion week. One of the ‘Antwerp Six’ collective (a group of experimental designers who emerged out of Belgium in the 1980s) Demeulemeester’s experimental nature when in comes to design has not waned since those days. Her collections today encompass both menswear and womanswear, but the ethos remains constant, with a pervasive monochromatic colour scheme to allow for a close attention to detail and unusual textures. She stamps her own identity onto slouchy, menswear inspired modernity, with T-shirt dresses, asymmetric hems and fierce combat boots all playing a part.
