Lessons From a Sales-Obsessed Fashion Editor

I've spent years looking at clothes for a living.
I've watched trends appear, disappear, and then reappear a few seasons later with a different name. I've seen people panic-buy pieces because they're 70% off, and I've seen investment purchases quietly become the most-worn items in a wardrobe.
Summer sales arrive at a particularly dangerous time. We're thinking about vacations, heatwaves, and all the outfits we'd like to be wearing immediately. The temptation is to fill your cart with linen dresses, raffia bags, and another pair of sandals.
Sometimes I do.
But the purchases I've been happiest with over the years tend to be the ones that felt slightly boring at the time and incredibly smart six months later.
These are the sale-shopping rules I keep coming back to.
