As cotton can often be prone to shrinking when it is washed and dried, it is recommended to check the individual care label for each piece and follow the instructions carefully. As cotton is prone to shrinkage, it’s best to clean in water that is 30°C or below. Colored cotton garments should be turned inside out before washing. Cotton pieces can then be gently stretched to restore the original shape. Air dry cotton naturally.
There is a common misconception that linen is difficult to care for, but the material is in fact very simple to clean. However, we would always recommend following the care instructions on the item's label, and testing any cleaning method on an inconspicuous area before washing. Regular laundering will lead to softer garements over time. Similar to cotton, linen has a tendency to shrink. We therefore recommend that you avoid cleaning the fabric in hot water, and instead wash linen in warm or cold water. Avoid bleach, fabric softener and wringing out. Linen is fast drying, and it is best to lay flat and allow to air dry. Store your linen garments in a cool, dry place, and avoid wrapping them in plastic.
Few fabrics feel as luxurious as silk, and in order to keep it in its original condition for longer, we recommend carefully following the care instructions found on each individual item’s label. Some silk products are strictly dry clean only, while others can be hand washed or machine washed on a gentle, cold-water cycle. It is advised to clean silk using a lower temperature to other fabrics, as hot water can affect the material’s natural properties and damage to the fibers. We also recommend selecting a specially-formulated silk detergent, which will be gentler on its natural proteins. Avoid spot cleaning silk, as rubbing in only one area can cause the material to lighten in just that spot. Silk should not be tumble dried, and instead can be laid flat to dry naturally. If you must wash in the machine, select a gentle, cold-water cycle, place in a laundry bag for additional protection and promptly remove from the washer to reduce any wrinkles. If the care label on your silk item says that it can be ironed, then use a low iron setting and ideally iron while it is still slightly damp.
