Cotton is one of the most popular fabrics, and there are many different types of cotton fabric. We suggest checking the care instructions for the specific item before washing. As cotton is prone to shrinkage, it’s best to clean in water that is 30°C or below. Colored cotton garments should be turned inside out before washing. Cotton pieces can then be gently stretched to restore the original shape. Air dry cotton naturally.
There is a common misconception that linen is difficult to care for, but the material is in fact very simple to clean. It can usually be washed by hand or in the washing machine, and will actually benefit by regular laundering as it becomes softer over time. Similar to cotton, linen has a tendency to shrink. We therefore recommend that you avoid cleaning the fabric in hot water, and instead wash linen in warm or cold water. Avoid using bleach and fabric softener on linen, and never wring the fabric after hand washing. Lay linen garments flat to dry. Store your linen garments in a cool, dry place, and avoid wrapping them in plastic.
Silk is a beautifully luxurious fabric, and often requires special care to keep it looking its best. Due to its very delicate nature, we advise carefully following the care instructions on each individual silk product. Some silk products are strictly dry clean only, while others can be hand washed or machine washed on a gentle, cold-water cycle. It is advised to clean silk using a lower temperature to other fabrics, as hot water can affect the material’s natural properties and damage to the fibers. We also recommend selecting a specially-formulated silk detergent, which will be gentler on its natural proteins. Avoid spot cleaning silk, as rubbing in only one area can cause the material to lighten in just that spot. Silk should not be tumble dried, and instead can be laid flat to dry naturally. If you need to clean in the machine, first place in a laundry bag, select a delicate, cold-water cycle and remove promptly once the cycle has finished to reduce wrinkles. If the care label on your silk item says that it can be ironed, then use a low iron setting and ideally iron while it is still slightly damp.
