GCDS Opening Pop-up At VFILES In NYC
To celebrate the launch of its new capsule collection in collaboration with Teyana Taylor, GCDS is opening a pop-up store at VFILES in New York City. Open from tomorrow, April 7, through April 21, the pop-up will be the only place to buy the exclusive collection aside from the GCDS online store.
Called “Harlem Made”, the capsule collection is inspired by the actress, musician, dancer and entrepreneur’s personal style and her Harlem, New York, origins. Streetwear essentials like T-shirts, hoodies, bodysuits and accessories make up the 12-piece range which is priced from $20-$160.
This is the second time GCDS and Taylor have worked together. Last September, she closed the Italian label’s first-ever runway show during New York Fashion Week. The moment was so significant to both GCDS and Taylor that an image of her walking in the show features predominantly as a graphic throughout the 80s sportswear-inspired collection.
Tonight, GCDS is throwing a party to celebrate the pop-up’s opening at the 12 Mercer Street location. Alongside an appearance by Taylor, DJ Odalys will be playing a set at the invite-only event.
As well as the launch party, GCDS has also released a lookbook for the capsule collection. Starring Taylor and shot by Cycy Sanders, the campaign sees the multi-hyphenate in Harlem locations including a graffiti-covered diner and nail salon wearing key pieces from the range. Styled with a pair of oversized gold hoop earrings, Taylor is pictured in items including a short-sleeved white hoodie layered over a black long-sleeved one, and a pair of camouflage pants styled with a beige slogan-print bodysuit.
Aside from the pop-up, GCDS is also set to open its first permanent store in the UK this month. Located at 47 Albemarle Street in Mayfair, the shop will be the first place in the UK that the brand’s collection will be available outside of boutique and department store concessions.
GCDS at VFILES will be open from April 7 through 21 at 12 Mercer Street, New York, NY 10013.
