Chase And Status Sets The Stage For Selfridges
Hardcore breakbeats, fast tempos and reggae baselines. We’re ready for the rave that’s about to break out in Selfridges. Hot off the press, Chase, and Status has teamed up with the British department store and Reebok for a music-inspired installation.
Selfridges, London is getting its drum and bass fix with a partnership with Chase and Status and Reebok. In a music inspired installation, the English drum and bass band is due to create the hypest hype in the London Capital.
In a bid to celebrate Chase and Status’ 15th anniversary, the collaboration is set to debut August 9th and find residency in the Women’s Designer Studio.
Dubbed as Super Sharp Reloaded, rave culture and jungle music will set the stage. Most specifically, the installation will celebrate and explore the relationship between jungle music and fashion.
As jungle music peaked in the nineties, the decade is set to be a key reference point for the design direction for the installation. It was an era whereby the queues to raves became the new runway.
And now the store is the new catwalk. Super Sharp Reloaded is set to have a special soundtrack that is influenced by nineties jungle music.
Jungle music is a thematic exploration that was present in the drum and bass duo’s former exhibition ‘Super Sharp’ that was showcased in partnership with London College of Fashion.
Curated by Tory Turk, the original exhibition paid homage to 90s rave scenes and celebrated that how jungle music’s infatuation with Italian luxury garments.
As we look back to the Nineties, a time of great economic uncertainty, the aspirational class showcased social status through designer labels. To show your wealth was to wear it. It was a rebellious feat in times of austerity.
It is a sentiment resounded by curator Tory Turk, who is set to use Super Sharp Reloaded as a vehicle to express this form of elitism. Here, the curator will showcase a personal collection of garments, including vintage Moschino pieces. With an ambition to celebrate jungle 90’s culture, other pieces will include Serotonin Vintage and Jazzy Badger.
It is no secret that Moschino is a popular favorite amongst jungle-heads. With a 1500 piece personal collection, Chase and Status’ own Saul Milton is a serious collector of the Italian fashion label.
The artist took to Instagram to share that ‘Rudeboy culture & rave culture has been & still is a massive part of my life’. Last year, the artist spoke to GQ about how rave culture has manifested into streetwear. On a personal level, the Italian fashion label has been a huge inspiration point for Milton. As well as inspiring the Super Sharp Reloaded, Moschino has been a key reference point for Chase and Status’ latest album.
As we await Super Sharp Reloaded, what is clear is that Selfridges is a stage, so we are going to shout next hype.
