A New Generation of “It” Bags Tops the World’s Hottest Women’s Products List in Q2

After a quarter that saw shoes and small accessories dominate the women’s products list, a new generation of “It” bags is taking over. For the second quarter of 2019, three handbags are some of the hottest products of the season, taking the first, third and fifth spots respectively in the latest Lyst Index.

Off-White’s tongue-in-cheek Jitney 1.4 “Cash Inside” bag is officially the world’s hottest fashion product of the quarter. Part of the pre-Fall collection, the Jitney bag line was inspired by the Hampton Jitney bus line and took 18 months to develop. Following in the footsteps of Virgil Abloh’s previous sell-out accessories, demand for the Jitney 1.4 bag started building weeks before its actual release, which prompted the product to instantly sell out across multiple retailers.

Responsible for a 400% quarter on quarter increase in global searches for the brand, the Chloé C mini croc-effect shoulder bag comes in third place in this quarter’s Hottest Women’s Products list. From April to June, the C was the most viewed product for the French house. Thanks to celebrity endorsements from the likes of Kaia Gerber and Kendall Jenner, as well as a noticeable presence on the streets of Paris during Fashion Week, it quickly became yet another addition to its stellar catalogue of “It” bags.

Meanwhile, Bottega Veneta’s “The Pouch” takes the fifth spot. Designed by the brand’s new Creative Director, British designer Daniel Lee, the minimalist clutch has discreetly been taking over Instagram, constantly selling out and sparking more than 10,000 views a month since its launch. Lee’s recent takeover has turned Bottega Veneta into one of the most talked-about fashion brands of the year, inspiring the creation of the Instagram account @newbottega, a tribute to his designs which is reminiscing of the @oldceline account dedicated to Phoebe Philo’s time at Céline. Searches for Bottega Veneta increased 70% this quarter, and the label climbed 26 places in the Index’s Hottest Brands ranking.
