K-Pop stars are loved, not only for their music but for their daring sense of style. From music videos featuring dozens of unforgettable looks to non-conforming red carpet style that could rival any seasoned star, when it comes to fashion, nobody is pushing the boat quite like K-Pop singers. Which is not new news if you’re living in Korea, but finally the rest of the world seems to be catching on too. K-Pop stars BTS were mentioned in Lyst’s Year In Fashion, with their biggest ever YouTube 24 hour debut for the hit single ‘IDOL’ reaching the brand’s top 10 ‘Fashion Moments’.

The newest ‘IT celebrities’, 2018 was the year that K-Pop stars officially infiltrated the front row at some of the most visible, exclusive fashion shows around the world. Kai, a member of EXO, who amassed over 1.6 million Instagram followers in a mere six days when he returned to the social media platform from a 3 year hiatus, sat front row when Alessandro Michele presented his Gucci Cruise 2019 show and Sehun, also from EXO sat front row at the Louis Vuitton cruise 2019 show. The new super influencers, K-Pop stars represent a rare type of breed when it comes to celebrity. Do they have catchy songs? Yes. Daring when it comes to fashion? Of course. Millions of revenue? This is Korea we’re talking about. But more than that, K-Pop stars know how to work social media and capitalize on their millions of followers like some of the biggest self-made YouTube stars out there and more views ultimately mean more sales.

Last year alone K-Pop supergroups EXO, BTS, and Twice reportedly made 10 billion won on merchandise alone and K-Pop’s global revenue is reported to have reached $4.6 billion in 2016, with that stat most likely having doubled since. Meaning, it comes as no surprise that these big players in the music industry are becoming even bigger players in the fashion circuit. To commemorate K-Pop’s global influence, below we’ve listed 5 of this year’s biggest K-Pop fashion moments. From the like likes of Girls’ Generation, GDragon, and more, think of this as your guide to the names you need to know and those that you should be bookmarking for the year ahead.

Mentioned in Lyst’s Year In Fashion, BTS’ video ‘Idol’ showed that the group are fearless when it comes to fashion. Colorful and overly animated, the video featured the stars in brights prints and flamboyant suits that crossed over into the world of high fashion.

Kai went full Gucci

Arguably one of the best-dressed attendees at the Gucci SS18 Resort show, Kai from EXO showed his style power by arriving in head-to-toe Gucci from the men’s Fall 2018 collection – featuring a crystal fringe headband and all.

Super Junior’s Lo Siento video

Speaking of Gucci, the group Super Junior gained tonnes of likes when the music video for their song ‘Lo Siento’ first aired in November. Wearing all Gucci S/S18, key looks included 70’s-inspired colorful suits and adventurous prints and florals. With each look being targeted towards both men and women, it showed how the group are not afraid to experiment with gender-fluid style.
