Amal Clooney’s Royal Wedding Dress Sparked 17,000 Internet Searches in 48 Hours

This time last week, the world was speculating on which designer Meghan Markle would wear to marry her prince. Hotly tipped predictions included Burberry, Ralph & Russo, Erdem and Victoria Beckham, but she surprised us all by choosing Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy.

There were 600 guests invited to the service, and alongside Meghan’s show stopping gown, one outfit stood out for fashion lovers worldwide. In the hours following the wedding, searches for yellow dresses soared, inspired by Amal Clooney’s bespoke Stella McCartney look. These were the three most searched-for outfits from Royal Wedding weekend.

1. Amal Clooney

Amal Clooney’s yellow Stella McCartney dress is the most searched-for outfit from the Royal Wedding. 17,000 people, from 65 countries, searched for a yellow Stella McCartney dress in the 48 hours following the wedding. Traffic to Stella McCartney dresses increased by 3000% in one day, no doubt also boosted by Meghan, who also chose to wear the British designer for her reception gown. Searches for yellow dresses are currently up 1500% week on week.

2. Carey Mulligan

English actress and singer Carey Mulligan attended the royal wedding, alongside husband Marcus Mumford in an floral embroidered Erdem dress.
The canadian designer was one of the front runners to design Meghan’s wedding dress, but it was Carey who stepped out in an Erdem ensemble.
She paired the dress with an understated feather headpiece, white clutch and beige court shoes. The dress was the second most searched-for look of the wedding. Traffic to Erdem dresses increased by 1000% in the 24 hours after the wedding and midi-length styles were the most viewed formal dresses this week.

3. Serena Williams

Tennis champion Serena Williams started the day in a pink Versace dress, but it was her evening gown that got the world talking and searching. Serena chose a black floral Valentino dress for the reception, worn with a pair of sneakers. In her Instagram post, that now has more than 3 million views, she told us a “little known fact: I often wear sneakers under my evening gown.” The outfit sent searches soaring for Valentino; traffic to Valentino dresses increased by 400% in 24 hours.
