Handmade necklace set in brown leather with an authentic Pirate coin (cob coin) and Tahitian pearls. This a unique and genuine piece of 4 Reales cob coin, Mexico mint 1572-1734. Each coin is completely unique and a one-of-a-kind piece! History of Spanish Treasure coins: As silver and gold deposits were discovered in the Caribbean, Mexican and South American territories there was a pressing demand to export it to Spain. As a result, the mints produced irregular coinage called "cobs". The word "Cob" comes from the simplification of the Spanish phrase "cabo de barra" which translates to "from a bar". A bar of silver was simply cut into chunks of the appropriate weight and hammered between crude dies. After the coins were struck, they were weighed by an assayer who would cut off any excess silver which is why most of the coins have some of the impression cut away. Due to this method no two coins are alike and many are collected for their unique shapes alone. The cob coin, like anything that is not longer available, is becoming very scarce and hence more valuable. The few coins that remain are the last vintage of the glory days of pirates and treasure hunting. The natural pearls, leather, and metals used in Heimaries creations are delicate materials and therefore it is best to avoid contact with corrosive products such as cleaning products, exposing your jewelry to extreme temperatures, and direct contact with cosmetics and chemicals such as chlorine (also chlorinated swimming pools).
