Despite “Yves” being officially dropped from Saint Laurent’s name in 2012 under the leadership of Hedi Slimane, the luxury house’s YSL insignia has remained the same. Today, Yves Saint Laurent’s legacy lives on through this iconic logo, which appears on some of the brand’s most coveted pieces; this includes the cult Le 5 à 7 bag, for which strong demand has helped propel the French maison into the Lyst Index’s top 5 hottest brands for the very first time.
As searches for tote bags continue to increase, having gone up 7% on Lyst over the past month alone, the sartorial shift from mini to large bags has never been so evident — and Saint Laurent’s new additions to its Le 5 à 7 family could not have arrived at a better moment.
When creative director Anthony Vaccarello debuted the Le 5 à 7 in the maison’s SS21 collection, the bag quickly gained cult status among shoppers and celebrities, having been worn by the likes of Rihanna, Hailey Bieber and Taylor Swift. Since then, the design has been reimagined in an array of styles, fabrics and colours.
The latest silhouettes, called the Soft and the Bea, bring a more contemporary and casual look to the classic Le 5 à 7 shoppers have come to know and love. Crafted from soft leather to give them their supple structure, the bags both continue to feature the iconic Cassandre signature, which was designed back in 1961 by — and named after — graphic designer Cassandre.
