Cut outs: Cut-out swimwear is amongst the most sought-after styles on Lyst, with searches for “cut out bikinis” rising 27% year-to-date. “Keyhole” one-piece swimsuits are also trending; pageviews for the style are up 34% month-on-month.
Upside-down bikini tops: Frequently worn by the Kardashian and Jenner sisters, this trend is currently growing in popularity; demand for upside-down bikini tops is up 49% year-to-date. Although green, hot pink and neutral are the most popular colors, following a post by Khloe Kardashian in April picturing her wearing a purple upside-down bikini, searches for purple bikinis spiked 150% within that week.
Terrycloth: Celebrity-approved, terrycloth swimsuits and bikinis are having a moment, with searches for both styles rising collectively 66% since the start of the month. Frankies Bikinis and Lisa Marie Fernandez have seen the sharpest increase in searches related to the term “terry”.
Conscious swimwear: Shopper are actively searching for eco-friendly swimwear brands, with sustainability-related keywords increasing 101% over the past month. In particular, searches that include the word “recycled” have increased 211% in May so far. Shoppers’ most sought-after brands include Vitamin A, Fisch and Mara Hoffman.
Underwire: Comparing to the same time last year, searches for underwire swimwear increased by 166% throughout the past 3 weeks. While shoppers are still looking more for bikinis (+189%), searches for underwire one-pieces are also rising (+123%). The most sought-after styles include ones by Ganni, Onia and Reina Olga.
Minimal swimwear: Demand for simple black one-piece swimsuits has been growing since the start of the year; over the past month minimal styles have been searched 306% more compared to the same period last year. Other minimal swimwear styles that fashion lovers are searching for include: ‘one-piece’ and ‘nude’. Matteau, one of Hailey Bieber’s favorite swimwear brands has been trending in the last couple of months. Norma Kamali is another classic swimwear brand with a renewed interest this season.
Retro: Colorful retro prints are set to be one of the biggest swimwear trends of the year. In the last month, searches for retro styles have grown 107% compared with the same time last year. Endorsed by celebrities such as Dua Lipa and Addison Rae, some of the most popular swimwear brands for retro prints are Frankies bikinis, Dodo Bar Or, Pucci, and Zimmermann.
Body jewelry: Body jewelry, which can be paired with beachwear, is also having a moment. The searches for “body jewelry” or “body chains” have increased year-on-year and are currently up 98%. Shopper’s favorite items currently include Alessandra Rich’s pearl body chain, Versace’s Greek motif body chain and Justine Clenquet’s Gia body chai.
Summer of short shorts: Male shoppers are embracing shorter swim shorts. Searches for swim trunks spiked 148% over the past month (compared to the same period last year), whereas page views for casual board shorts grew at a slower pace (+30%). Designer shorts such as Burberry’s check swim shorts and Fendi’s black shorts have been driving the most searches. Bold prints are also rising in popularity: searches for tie-dye swim trunks increased 100% in the last month. Meanwhile, demand for swim briefs has been growing fast over the past month with searches spiking 230%. Most wanted brands include Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Moschino.
