Looking back on his legacy of fashion design, Yves Saint Laurent once remarked that Chanel may have freed women, but he was responsible for empowering them. Under the vision of new creative director Anthony Vaccarello, the brand continues to pay respect to its own luxurious heritage while looking to the future of strictly fashionable footwear. History of Womens Saint Laurent Shoes
He was born Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent in France in 1936, but he later adopted the simpler name of Yves Saint Laurent when he realised the fashion press were struggling to pronounce and spell his full name. A young Laurent won an art contest for upcoming fashion designers in 1953, and it was these winning sketches that first drew the attention of fashion house Christian Dior. Starting out on low-level jobs, Laurent rapidly climbed to the top of the label and was personally chosen by Dior to succeed his own role of creative designer shortly before Dior’s death in 1957. Yves Saint Lauren went on to form his own fashion house in 1961, and became famous for shaking up the whole industry with his innovative designs, leading the way in new women’s ready-to-wear collections and inventing whole new empowering looks for the feminine wardrobe. Laurent left us with a legacy of genuinely influential fashion landmarks, but the company and the name continue to flourish and excite under the leadership of new creative director Anthony Vaccarello.
