History of Mens Kickers Shoes
The French label Kickers was originally founded in 1970 by Daniel Raufast who felt inspired to create a cool new shoe that would strike a chord with the blue-jean generation. Along with designer Jacques Chevallereau, he launched the world’s first ‘jean boot’ which used contrasting triple-stitching and engraved eyelets to make a perfect visual accompaniment to wear with the growing global trend of casual jeans. Originally a small local French business, the craze for Kickers rapidly spread across Germany and then the rest of Europe, eventually developing into a big hit for the kids of the 1980s who would queue up late at night to catch the latest store deliveries which would sell out in minutes. In the 1990s, the new range of Kick Hi boots were a fashion staple of the Manchester music scene, along with rave, acid house and trance. Ian Brown of The Stone Roses famously wore a pair of Kick Hi boots to The Hacienda in Manchester to flout the strict ‘no trainer’ policy, and he also wore them throughout one of the band’s biggest hits ‘Fools’ Gold’. Fast-forward to the 21st century, and Kickers continue to be adored by the stars of the new millennium, including Ms Dynamite, So Solid Crew, Noel Gallagher and the Arctic Monkeys.
