Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Berge founded the eponymous Yves Saint Laurent label in 1962 however it was not until the 1970’s that the brand became internationally renowned. YSL is famous for creating some of the most popular trends of the century such as safari jackets, fitted trousers and most pivotally the tuxedo for women.
Although it is a classic fashion house YSL has always been known to push boundaries and this was no exception when Tom Ford took over in 1999 creating a new provocative look for the brand. Subsequently in 2004 Italian designer Stefano Pilati took over as Creative Director overseeing the entire brand. Pilati has seen great success in this position as he was able to respect the label’s history whilst using innovative new techniques and fabrics. Recent YSL collections have looked very polished with a clean monochrome palette and sleek styling. Pilati has also expanded on the company’s accessory line which now features the classic ‘Muse’ bag and ‘Tribute’ platforms.▼
