Jimmy Choo founded his eponymous label in 1996 with British Vogue accessories editor Tamara Mellon. Having studied at London College of Fashion, he opened a London workshop showcasing his designs. Shortly after this he shot to fame as his creations were featured in an eight page Vogue spread in 1988. This notoriety meant that he quickly built up a loyal clientele, including Michelle Obama and Nichole Kidman who love his take on luxury footwear. In 2001 Choo sold half his shares in the company and it is now creatively overseen solely by Tamara Mellon.
Tamara Mellon extensively expanded the Jimmy Choo label creating handbag and ready-to-wear lines, making it the ‘go to’ label for red carpet events. The Jimmy Choo empire now includes over 100 locations in 32 countries.▼
