Jil Sander
The Jil Sander label was largely responsible for popularizing the pure, minimalist style that was so popular in the nineties. The German designer launched her namesake line in 1973, but it wasn't until the nineties that her uncomplicated, clean design aesthetic really took off the ground. Soon her monochromatic basics were a favourite with everyone in the fashion world resulting in a 200 million dollar empire including fragrances and menswear. In Spring 2006 Belgian menswear designer Raf Simons took over as creative director, maintaining the understated sillouhettes and graphic style of the brand. Although he has retained the Jil Sander heritage, Raf Simons has certainly added his own personal touch to recent collections. His conceptual collections have become increasingly structural and have also started to feature more colour, electric blues and deep reds filled the runway in previous seasons.▼
