Hussein Chalayan
Hussein Chalayan entered the fashion scene with a bang in 1993 - his Central Saint Martins graduate show consisted of clothes he had buried in his back yard and dug up again. It was an instant sensation, was quickly snapped up by luxury designer store Browns and led to him launching his label soon after that. Turkish-born Chalayan’s success continued as the years went by, and he won the title of British Designer of the year in 1999 and 2000. He is today renowned for his innovative use of materials, meticulous pattern-cutting and progressive attitudes to new technologies in fashion - including his series of laser LED dresses in collaboration with Swarovski in 2008. While he is in many ways a fashion outsider, his genius cannot be denied, and a Chalayan piece is sure to make you feel like a fashion insider.▼
