Céline was initially founded in 1945 as a children’s shoe manufacturer, it wasn’t until the early sixties that it developed into ready-to-wear collections. Céline is perhaps best known for its simplicity, creating exceptionally tailored separates that are chic and functional. This distinct style was enhanced in the late nineties when American designer Michael Kors became the label’s first ever womenswear designer and creative director. Subsequently, in Fall 2009 ex-Chloé designer Phoebe Philo took over the helm of Céline making it one of the most popular labels of 2010 and beyond. In just over a year Phoebe Philo has irrevocably influenced fashion with her minimalistic Céline collections. Philo created collections based simply on what she would like to wear, this clear vision resulted in sharp collections combining perfect cuts and tailoring with monochromatic basics that have had a huge impact on the fashion world.▼
